PAYPAL & Credit Card "The Painter, Gilder, and Varnisher's Companion: Containing Rules and Regulations in Everything Relating to the Arts of Painting, Gilding, Varnishing, & Glass-Staining: Numerous Useful and Valuable Receipts; Tests for the Detection of Adulterations in Oils, Colours, &c. And a Statement of the Diseases and Accidents to Which Painters, Gilders, and Varnishers are Peculiarly Liable; With the Simplest and Best Methods of Prevention and Remedy." Henry Carey Baird (1825-1912) was the first publisher in the United States to specialize in technical and industrial titles. He was also a frequent speaker and writer on domestic and international economics. This early title from his catalog was compiled and edited by Baird. It remained in print, with revisions, through the first quarter of the 20th Century. This early edition features detailed descriptions for the production and application of the materials and compounds used in the trades of the painter, gilder, varnisher and stained glass worker. In addition, there is an entire section devoted to the ills that could befall the worker when handling dangerous substances such as lead and mercury, along with directions on how to cope with the end results of such exposures. A later edition of this title in our personal library features a set of birthdates written on the inside rear cover, much as you might see in a family bible. The owner wanted these dates in the book used in daily work, an indication of it's importance as both a technical guide and a personal record |
